The Polytech enables students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree along with their high school diploma, demonstrating advanced levels of studies and allowing the option of immediate employment after graduation. Those who want to continue their higher education may transfer to a four-year degree program.
Students interested to major in biological, environmental, earth, or resource sciences, chemistry, or geology have an opportunity to start their studies while still in high school. The Polytech offers courses that fulfill prerequisites that students typically take at a 4-year college or university. Please talk to our staff about your interests and we can develop a plan to jumpstart studies in these science and engineering fields.
There are two primary aviation programs available to The Polytech students:
1) Aviation Electronics I: Wire Assembly Certificate
This certificate is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge, skills and abilities to meet minimum requirements for employment as an entry level wire assembly technician in aerospace-related technologies.
2) Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)
This FAA-certified program trains future mechanics for work on both the Powerplant and the Airframe of aircraft. This program emphasizes commercial aviation and has several innovative internships and work-study programs available, in addition to providing the necessary certification for FAA testing. Two- and four-year degree options are available.
The Polytech students may access either one of these options, or complete both certificate programs.
The Automotive Technology program provides students with up-to-date, technologically advanced training equipment and facilities through the continued support of industry manufacturers and local dealers. The automotive technology program qualifies students for employment in auto maintenance and related fields.
The welding and fabrication program teaches all major welding and cutting processes, including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, FCAW-S, GTAW, OAC, PAC; welding on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum; hand and machine torch cutting; and field welding techniques. The emphasis in the welding program is not only on welding skills, but also on fabrication techniques. This series of classes includes heavy plate fabrication, sheetmetal fabrication, pipefitting and pipe systems fabrication, structural steel fabrication, and field-welding techniques. Extensive classes in Blueprint Reading, Layout and Metallurgy are also offered.
Welding classes are offered both days and evenings, and The Polytech classes can be scheduled around either program.
